  3. Stijl (see Mondrian), Nicholson developed a
  4. style of geometrical reliefs, notably a
  5. series of white reliefs (from 1933). Born in
  6. Denham, Buckinghamshire, son of William
  7. Nicholson, he studied at the Slade School of
  8. Art, London, as well as in Europe and in
  9. California. He was awarded the Order of Merit
  10. 1968. He married the sculptor Barbara
  11. Hepworth.
